Customers have requested 1980’s themed dance ideas. Here are our ideas for how to use Stumps Spirit dance decorations to create a really rad 80’s theme dance.
There’s one simple rule in creating an 80’s theme dance: Excess. You cannot decorate too much. Encourage students to dress in 80’s fashion for the dance and they’ll associate the era with big hair, tons of bangles, and DayGlo colors. Incorporate these notions into your decorations and you’ll end up with an 80’s themed dance that is sure to be a fun night for students!
Some of our Retro Theme Decorations work great for this theme. For example, the Disco Fever Arch (pictured at right) features bright colored swirls and dots that pop like DayGlo, making it a great entrance piece for your 80’s theme dance. This item is also fab for taking commemorative photos under!
Continue the colorful 80’s decorations by selecting a color scheme and coordinating your theme decorations to it. Red and silver were big in the 80’s as were neon colors like hot pink, hot orange, and lime green. You can also create a color scheme based of an 80’s pop culture icon. For example, red, gold, and green like in Culture Club’s “Karma Chameleon” or “Raspberry Beret” by Prince. You could even use a rainbow of colors like Rainbow Brite or Punky Brewster.
Once you’ve selected a color scheme, use it for selecting matching plastic tableware, gossamer, and balloons!
Create balloon bunches of odd numbers (3, 5, 7…) and secure them around the room by attaching them with coordinating curling ribbon to balloon weights.
Create a stunning 80’s ceiling with Gossamer! Alternating your 80’s theme colors, strips of gossamer of any length can be swagged across a room from one side to the other. If you cannot fasten the gossamer directly to the walls, attach wires along two opposite walls. Use screw eyes to hold the wires. A wire on each side of a room will allow you to create a single swag of gossamer from one side to another. An additional wire down the center of the room, parallel to the two side wires, will create a double swag. Three equally spaced wires will create four swags in the gossamer from one side of the room to the other.
60″ or 107″ wide gossamer make the most successful ceilings. At the outside wall, pleat or gather the gossamer to 1/2 its original width for the best appearance.
Strips of any width gossamer can also be attached to all four walls and woven in and out (basket-like) for an unusual ceiling treatment.
The 80’s was known for sparkles, sequins, and glitter. Get some shine into your decorations by using Metallic Corrugated Paper or shimmering Premium Metallic Foil Curtains to cover your walls. Suspend Holographic Shimmer Stars from the ceiling and loop Star Confetti Garland around doorways, table edges, and banisters. Holographic Streamers are another hot, shimmering item!
Use special lighting effects to make the most of your bright colors and shimmering decorations. Stringlights add a charming glow. What dance floor is complete without a Mirror Ball?
Remember all those 80’s music videos and the blankets of fog in them? Bring this special effect to your dance with a Fog Machine! We also have a Bubble Machine for a really fun alternative.
