Holiday Candy CanesYour cheerleading squad shines with spirit at every game and competition. Want another way to show your enthusiasm? Get involved in your community! There are countless ways for awesome cheerleaders like you to make a difference. From nursing home visits to food drives to charity fundraisers, cheerleaders can make a huge impact on those around them.

One way to have a lot of fun and donate your time is by ringing bells for the Salvation Army or another local charity. Dress up in Santa hats and festive clothing, then hit the town!

If your squad loves animals, make visits to local animal shelters to walk dogs and visit with the animals. Even critters need some love this holiday season!

Ask for donations of new toys and books from students, teachers and parents. Then, with the hospital’s permission, dress up as elves and deliver the toys to children who have to be in the hospital over the holidays. It’ll brighten their day and yours!

Offer your services as baby-sitters so local moms can get their shopping done. Set up games in the school gym and have a blast with the kids while their parents get some relief from the holiday stress.

A squad from St. Joseph Middle School in Ft. Wayne, Indiana did just that. The cheerleaders got together and volunteered to sing Christmas carols at several nursing homes and hospitals in the area. But they didn’t stop there – the squad continued its visits, playing games, singing songs and most of all, making friends!

This is just one example of a cheerleading squad’s commitment to its community. Do you have a story? Have your cheerleaders done something to inspire and support those around them? We would love to hear about it! Just send your story to us and we will add it to our website (pictures are welcome). Your efforts will encourage others to get involved and make their community a better place.
